Clean round fixtures and discreet brick lighting at Nedlands Yacht Club in Perth

Round lighting for the entry and step lighting for the ramps and stairs

Plenty of jobs need something the catalogue does not cover. Custom shapes, awkward ceiling layouts and mixed indoor and outdoor areas come up regularly, and we can reshape our existing range to suit.

The Nedlands Yacht Club sits on the Swan River in Western Australia. The club renovated the building with new interior spaces, an upper floor deck extension and a reworked entry.

The entry is a mixed use space, so it needed broad light across the floor. We put forward a round suspended formation for it, built from a system we already make.

Outside, the ramps and stairs leading up to the building needed step lighting as well. Because the site sits right on the water, we recommended IP rated luminaires built for exterior use to AU and NZ standards.

Round lighting built to a custom configuration, then delivering to Perth

We drew up the job and supplied two luminaire styles, one custom and one from stock.

For the entry, we built four round luminaires from our LUS506 system. The LUS506 runs on a modular aluminium profile, so it goes together in whatever configuration a job calls for, including a full ring. We drew the round version up and sent it through, then made the four luminaires to spec once the drawings came back approved. The version listed on our website is the same system in a straight run.

For the ramps and stairs, we put forward the SL3673 Ram recessed exterior LED wall luminaire. It is IP65 rated, so rain and salt air are not a problem. The 100 degree beam angle spreads step lighting across the tread and the path below. It also recesses into the wall, which keeps the LED out of direct view.

We had the step luminaires in stock, so they went out within days. The four round luminaires followed once we finished building them. Delivering to Perth is something we do regularly, so both shipments were straightforward.

Warm light through the entry and even step lighting across the exterior

Four round luminaires now hang in the entry. Each one is a closed ring, so the shape reads the same from any angle, and together they spread warm light across the mixed use space.

Round lighting works well in an open plan area like this one. The shape has no start or end, so it suits a space where people move in every direction, and it carries a high ceiling without looking lost. For architects and designers, the formation is built from a profile system we already manufacture, so the diameter and the spacing can be set to fit the room.

Outside, the recessed luminaires wash the ramps and stairs with a low, even light, which makes each level change easy to pick up at night. The IP65 rating holds up in a marine environment.

Superlight supplied two luminaire styles on this job, one custom and one off the shelf. We adapt our range or build from scratch, and we stay involved from the drawings through to delivery.
